Creative Team

Inspire Church Albany

Our Purpose

The Creative Team exists to serve the vision of Inspire Church Albany in the creative space. Everything we do is in support of the church's larger mission, using the areas we specialise in to create an environment where people can encounter God.

What We Do

Our team operates across two main areas:

Music

Vocalists, instrumentalists, and worship leaders who lead the church in musical worship.

Tech

Live production (sound, vision), streaming, media and graphics, lighting.

Joining the Team

There is no formal audition process — we believe that doesn't tell us everything we need to know about you, nor does it tell you everything you need to know about us. While the pathway will look different for every individual, here's how it generally works:

1

Have a chat

Meet with the Creative Directors for an informal conversation about your interest and experience.

2

Be part of the family

Come along to team events and get to know the team. Relationship, culture, and a heart for serving matter to us — we want you to feel at home before you're on a roster.

3

Move into a rostered role

When you're ready and there is a desire to step into a rostered slot, the leadership group will assess readiness and offer you a place on the roster.

We value heart and character alongside skill. If you're interested in getting involved, reach out to one of the Creative Directors to start the conversation.

Our Weekly Rhythm

Our regular midweek slot is Thursday evenings, 7–9pm. What happens on a Thursday depends on the week.

Team Nights

Whole-team gatherings that rotate through four themes:

BUILD

Team and skill building

LEARN

Song learning

JAM

Getting together to play without a specific agenda

FUN

Whole-family fun activities — often held on a different night. We aim for 3–4 per year — bring your family!

Rehearsals

On Thursdays without a team night, the rostered team for the upcoming Sunday will generally rehearse. This is organised by the worship leader for the week.

Sunday Mornings

The rostered team meets at 8am for pre-service rehearsal.

Sunday Evenings (Encounter Nights)

Encounter Nights are generally held on the first Sunday of the month. The format is much more organic, so the rostered team will usually arrange a suitable meeting time prior to the service on the day.

Other Events

Other church events are planned as required throughout the year, and we expect team members to be available for these where possible. That said, these are all volunteer positions — we completely understand when life means you can't be there.

What We Expect

Being part of the Creative Team is a serving commitment. While the specifics look slightly different depending on your role, the following outlines what is expected.

All team members: attend team nights as a priority — these are key to building team culture and connection.

Role Thursday Rehearsal Sunday Arrival In-Ear Monitors
Musicians / Vocalists When rostered for upcoming Sunday 8am — allow extra time for setup/tuning BYO (not consumer earbuds)
FOH Sound With stage-based personnel 8am
FOH Media With stage-based personnel 8am
Lighting 1 hour before service
Stream Audio 1 hour before service (minimum)
Stream Visual 1 hour before service
Camera Operators 30 minutes before service

Housekeeping

Availability & Communication

We use Elvanto to manage people, rosters, and song resources. Team members are expected to keep their availability up to date in Elvanto, and can view their rostered slots there.

Day-to-day team communication happens via Facebook Messenger groups. You'll be added to the relevant groups when you join the team.

For all roles, if you are unable to make a commitment, communicate early so the team can plan accordingly.

Dress Code — "Up, Down, Through, Tight"

If any clothing item is visually distracting for audience members when you are on stage, it is not appropriate. Remember that you are under strong stage lighting and on camera — both can reveal more than you might expect. Use this simple check:

Check Ask Yourself
Up Can people see "up" more than they should? (e.g. short skirts when on an elevated stage)
Down Are tops too low, showing more than is reasonably modest?
Through Are items too see-through, especially under bright lights and on camera?
Tight Is it figure-hugging? If so, it's probably unsuitable.

If you're unsure, feel free to ask — and when in doubt, choose something else. The goal is that nothing you wear becomes a distraction from worship.
